In this Guide we talk about Positioning in Illuvium's Autobattler. Positioning is super important because it is one of the only things we can decide in an Autobattler. We can decide what we put on the battlefield, and where we put it.
ROLES:
TANK - A Lot of Health and Resistances to endure a lot incoming damage. Carry (DD) - They Carry your team on their shoulder with their damage output. Squichy! Support - They support your Team with their abilities.
Attack Types:
Single Target Multi Target AOE - Area of Effect - Impacts a large Area instead of a single target.
Every Unit got a different maximum attack range. Some Illuvials are Melee - meaning they can only attack enemies directly next to them. (example: Sword Fighter) Some units are ranged. (example: Archer)
Once units attack a Target they lock onto this target until it is defeated or it gets invulnerable. then they scan their Attack Range for the next target. if there is no enemy in their attack range they walk up to the closest enemy on the battlefield.
Who do you want to take the damage? The Tanks and the Units which should trigger their ability fast. AOE Abilities want to be triggered in the start of the battle so they hit many enemies. If you put supports and carries in the front to trigger their ability faster, you have to split the damage so they don’t die too quick.
Splitting the Damage: If you put two or more Units next to each other directly in front of the enemies it will result in a damage split. Because some units are closer to one of them and some are closer to the other one. meaning some will attack one unit and some the other. instead of all enemies focusing one target and kill it too fast.
Who should not take much damage? Your carries and low health (squichy) supports. They go into the back line and can even be blocked in by your other less important units so assassin Illuvials cannot reach them so easily.
But if you Group up your units too much, they are vulnerable to AOE effects.
It can be good to let your carries take a bit of the damage split so you use all the health bars of your Illuvials as a resource. The Ideal damage split would be all splitting Illuvials dying at the same time.
Good luck on the Battlefield!
Great strategy you have got here. It will help me soon if I get into the Private Beta. Looking forward to more so I subscribe your YouTube.
